I spent a couple of hours just looking over the stock and making notes. Mind boggling assortment of clothing, doodads and necessities for ‘work, travel and play. Vast array of ‘real’ shoes. Brands like Keen, Salomon, Merrell, Dansko and Vionic. Rugged shoes capable of withstanding climbing Chatham County’s tallest peaks and bottomless valleys. Tank tops for guys, gals and youth. Backpacks, puff jackets, insulated vests. Sunglasses that float! Watches that grab your attention time after time.
Insulated ‘long johns’ and ‘long janes’- his and hers. All manner of rugged clothing for the guys and gals. Soft denim trousers that look like canvas but move with your body. Bib overalls. Washed duck dungarees. Mountain Khakis. Wolverine vests and heavy cotton shirts. Kozikicks active lifestyle slippers. Carhartt tee shirts. Sleeping bags, Dolamax sweaters.
Surely I have neglected hundreds of other things. All those gadgets! All those little things I never dreamed would be up for sale. But wait- You gotta have “Bloody Knuckles” A soap with lanolin that helps repair and restore damaged hands. It’s bloody red.
The building next door to “New Horizons West” will soon be a restaurant operated by the beloved Hillsborough street Phoenix Bakery. Both buildings have been totally renovated and restored. Eye catching yellow for New Horizons and soothing moss green for the bakery.
N.A. Book lives and writes in Chatham County (on one of those steep mountains) and predicts these two new stores with encourage more of same to that part of town- a part of town that hasn’t changed very much since moved here over forty years ago.
